LEHI, Utah (June 16, 2015)LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network, a statewide consortium of public and private academic libraries, has selected SirsiDynix SaaS to host its Symphony Integrated Library System and BLUEcloud products. This decision will impact the 34 LOUIS members that use Symphony, and will bring each 99.95% uptime, advanced security, automatic upgrades, and more.

“After reviewing the documentation, peppering the SirsiDynix SaaS team with questions, and talking to current customers, it became clear to us that SirsiDynix has an industry-leading hosting service for the Symphony ILS,” said Mike Waugh, Systems Librarian for LSU Libraries and Co-Chair of LOUIS’s Symphony Infrastructure Migration Task Force.

SirsiDynix SaaS is built upon the standards of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), giving LOUIS the ability to provide its patrons with top customer confidentiality and integrity. LOUIS will experience faster BLUEcloud updates, enhanced disaster recovery, and significant savings.

Part of this migration involves a conversion from Informix ISAM database structures running on IBM’s AIX to an Oracle database management system with Unicode encoding, running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. By moving to servers that support Unicode records, LOUIS will also be able to import, catalog, search, and display catalog and authority records containing non-Latin characters.

“The LOUIS staff are no longer burdened with the daily administrative tasks that come with maintaining physical servers,” continued Waugh. “But at the same time, staff will continue to have the server-side access that they currently have in our locally hosted Symphony environment, which enables them to support the LOUIS member institutions as well as, if not better than, before.”

Abbie Landry, Director of Libraries at Northwestern State University and incoming chair of the Louisiana Academic Library Information Consortium (LALINC) Executive Board, added the following: “Building on the strength of the LOUIS and SirsiDynix partnership, LOUIS will provide consortia members with new infrastructure, functionality, and growth opportunities which will in turn support research, teaching, and learning on our campuses.”

“These are exciting times for LOUIS and SirsiDynix,” said Scott Wheelhouse, Senior VP of Operations at SirsiDynix. “SirsiDynix is thrilled that LOUIS has selected our industry-leading SaaS solution. We look forward to providing LOUIS exceptional service, reliability, and security, ultimately providing their staff and patrons with the Best Library User Experience possible.”
